Lands of Wisdom

Lands of Wisdom is an open source project with the goal of resurrecting the old Lands of Lore PC game by creating a similar one. Unlike most such projects, Lands of Wisdom is not meant to be only a new game engine, playing with the original game data, but a full standalone game available for everyone (without requiring an original copy of Lands of Lore).

Like its original version, Lands of Wisdom is a Dungeon Master like, what can also be seen as a fantastic medieval role playing game viewed like a first person shooter played on a square-by-square and 90°-by-90° map.

Lands of Wisdom is written in C++ using the Simple DirectMedia Layer open source libraries. It is (will be from the first official release on) distributed under the GNU General Public Licence.

Lands of Lore: The throne of Chaos

Lands of Lore: The throne of Chaos, the first game of the trilogy was developed by Westwood Studios and published in 1993. It is a fantastic medieval role playing game following the tradition of the Dungeon Master series but with improved graphics, better gameplay and a complete scenario-based storyline. It is the story of a champion chosen by King Richard of Gladstone sent to a quest against the evil Scotia and her Army of Darkness. The game features the exploration of dark dungeons, foreign castles and deep mines with a large set of weapons, items and spells.

In the Royal Herborium

The game starts in the Gladstone Castle where the player can buy a few items before starting the adventure, like here, in the Royal Herborium.

The serious things begin when the player has to cross a forest full of hungry boars and cunning bandidts to retrieve a magic ruby from Richard's friend Roland.
